Peninsula- East Nashville
Peninsula is a new Spanish (specifically the Iberian Peninsula) restaurant in East Nashville. It's on the same street at one of my dearly departed hangouts, Holland House RIP, in a modern new building. I have a hard time with all these new modern boxes in East Nashville and walked in a little put-off. The space is small. I think they call it "intimate".
I didn't stay put-off for long. The menu is very intreging and I think it will be my job this summer to make it through all the gin & tonics on the cocktail list!
As always I look at what the beautiful people are eating and start there with my menu selections. They didn't steer us wrong.
The Spanish do great canned food. This was a special for the evening and so fun. The bowl held octopus.
We all had happy plates and were ready for more. They then brought out the shrimp on toast. It sounds like it would be something you would have on a Friday night at a Catholic boarding school BUT it literally blew. our. minds!
It was so simple but the flavors were perfectly complementary. Maybe that's cliche, maybe it's just too good for words. Since we had lost our words we didn't think it would get better than the shrimp, but we were wrong. That's the thing about a tapas restaurant, it's a production. "Well, you think that was good, just wait!" Only they would say it in Spanish.
This was the braised rabbit. We were fighting over this one! Honestly, we could had had a bowl each and been happy.
Our minds were so blown and we had lost our words so have no idea what this was. It was good, but I was still thinking about the rabbit. It also could have been the second gin & tonic kicking in..
The space is so limited at Peninsula, I think it's best for parties of 4 or less. They may be able to squeeze in a 6 top. My son said it's a perfect date spot and I totally agree.
The architecture may not be very attractive but you can still get a good sunset view.
