Up Country, Maui
Traveling "off beach" when you go to an island seems counterintuitive, but the up-country of Maui is beautiful and has a different flavor than the resort areas. It's worth spending a day or your vacation for a wander. The Ocean Vodka tour was highly recommended by one of our waiters.
We got to tour the facility and grounds and had a sampling of the vodka and the rum.
The tour was very well done and informative and they even suggested some other things we could do in the area. One of the things was lunch at Kula Lodge.
It has some of the best views and grounds I've ever seen on the island.
Lunch wasn't bad, either.
The waiter was very helpful with menu suggestions.
They even had a wood burning pizza oven.
I would love this in my backyard!
A lot of people go to Kula Lodge for breakfast after watching the sunrise at Haleakala and it gets pretty crowded. I was glad for the relative quiet at the lunch hour.
Another stop in the up country is Maui Wine. We spent too much time wandering the grounds at Kula Lodge and we didn’t get there in time for the tour, but the grounds and trees were amazing.
It’s too far a drive to visit just one site in the up country so I suggest you make a day of it and tick off several things on the list.
Other things to do up country: Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm and walk around the galleries and shops in Makawao Town.
Other places to eat: Le Provence and Ulupalakua Ranch Store
