Chauhan Ale & Masala House - The Gulch
Chauhan Ale & Masala House is one of those restaurants I go to over and over and have never written about. It took some convincing to get my family to go but now it's hard to get them to go anywhere else!
It's my son's favorite and he has to go every time he comes for a visit. One of his "last meals" before leaving for his grown-up job had to be at Chauhan.
This is my favorite appetizer, Gol Guppa Shots.
In the semolina puffs is black garbanzo and potato. You pour the mint cilantro water in right before you pop it in your mouth. I could eat the whole plate!
I've said this so many times but I'll repeat it for the people in the back: Chauhan has the BEST Mule in all of Nashville!! The ginger is so fresh and balanced and it's not too sweet. It's perfect to go with the spicy food to follow.
Part of the menu is what I consider more fusion, like the Tamarind Lamb Chop.
Then there is a more traditional section. This night I got the Chicken Korma. Since eating my way through India last year, I crave all things authentic.
Our server said there was a new cocktail, the Tiki Marsala so we got one to share. Whoever does the bar program at Chauhan needs a raise. I've never had a bad drink and everything blends smoothly with the food.
Usually, we are too full-up for dessert but I just saw "moong daal halwa stuffed naan with butter pecan ice cream" on Maneet Chauhan's Instagram and I will definitely have to pace myself my next visit.
Chauhan Ale & Masala House is on OpenTable.
